"International Dot Day, a global celebration of creativity, courage and collaboration, began when teacher Terry Shay introduced his classroom to Peter H. Reynolds’ book The Dot on September 15, 2009." Source: https://www.internationaldotday.org/
Project:
After reading the book "The Dot", students are encouraged to create their own unique dot.
For this dot project we used coffee filters, water resistant mediums, and water colors. First we cut the coffee filter into either a circle or heart. We then decorated the dot using white crayons and oil pastels. We finished by using water colors and washable markers to make our own unique dots.
Extension:
An extension activity that would fit well for older students would be to learn about "A Sunday Afternoon on the Island of La Grande Jatte" by Georges Seurat. He used a technique called "pointillism". Students could learn the technique and use it while creating a group poster.
